iBSL wants to share some exciting news about a family, who achieved iBSL Level 2 award.

The Smith family (BSL/iBSL learners) were nominated by Alison Bryan on behalf of Dysgu Bro Ceredigion (Ceredigion County Council) for the Inspire! Family Learning Award which they were the winner for 2020. This was announced on 21st September 2020.

“The Inspire! Adult Learning Awards is an annual event co-ordinated by Learning and Work Institute Wales in partnership with the Welsh Government and other supporters, including The Open University in Wales, Agored Cymru, Adult Learning Wales, National Centre for Learning Welsh and others.”

The extended family learnt BSL to communicate with a deaf family member (a child) and have surpassed a number of obstacles.  To date they have achieved iBSL Level 2.  Their award coincides with both Adult Learning Week and it also happens to be International Week of the Deaf (WFD initiative).

There is a video about their award here produced by the L&WI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I73TnGJc_B8 in which they mention IBSL.

There is also a page on the family here:http://www.learningandwork.wales/the-smith-family/ where they touch on funding BSL classes for families.

iBSL wants to congratulate the Smith family on their well-deserved award!
